Day Off Fun

Working Hard on the Navajo

Looks like another beautiful day on the Navajo reservation. Ben and his team, including Clayton, Kirby, and Kelly all worked real hard. They are doing so many things to this small home everyone has two or three hats they must wear. They got a ton done including drywall, getting windows in, roofing, and much more. Kirby sheet rocked all morning and then got up on the roof and Clayton put in a door handle and installed the door leading to him demolishing much (by plan not while doing the install). This has been a great trip and we will continue to keep you updated with the rest of the group.

Navajo Project - First Day of Work

Well, here we are at Shonto working away.
I got another sweet team that includes three of the kids from Mother Lode. I have Rebekah Barney, Mischa Friegang, and Trevor Mccrary (Kirby’s cousin). We drove thirteen miles down a dirt road, (that was a blast). We spent our first day
scraping all the tiles off the floor and washing the walls. We also replace the stove pipes up from the wood stove and then scrubbed and painted the floor.
The Family in the house are an elderly couple (The Laughters) and are very nice. She greeted us all in Navajo so we didn’t know what she was saying but she was smiling so it was great. We all had a great time and now are cleaning up preparing to eat a great meal and will do it all over again.

Keep Praying! Pastor Chris

Headed to the Navajo via Zion

Well off and running on the Shonto mission trip once more. This year we stopped in zion canyon to hike and hang out on Saturday. We all wondered around this rustic little town and checked out the tourist traps and gift shops. We then met back for lunch and headed out to Zion National Park. Wow has God made a masterpiece here. We took to the shuttle bus to the top of the road and then hiked back in about a mile before the trail ended. We then were able to keep going hiking in the Virgin river sometimes waist deep or sometimes on the shore. We walked for a couple more miles playing in the water, throwing mud, rock climbing and just having plain fun. After hiking for a good bit some decided to stop and sit while more of us went further up the canyon. Props to Chyna and Ellen for being the only girls to keep going. We ended up in a side canyon that narrowed down and the water got deeper and the waterfalls better. We had a great time getting over the obstacles and seeing just how far this would take us. Keep in mind that we were looking up at probable 400 foot walls on each side of us while walking in a river. To top it off we also came upon a mom whose son had gotten very far ahead and she did not know where he was. Mike Appleby and Jon Arena went and checked up one of the canyons for her. Meanwhile Chyna, Sam Parker, and I stayed and prayed with her. Her son came back on his own and all was good. Well anyway it was a great time and we all made it back to camp very hungry. Dave Ruiz and company made us the best burgers ever with grilled jalapanos and onions (food always taste better when worked for). We all ate well and finished off the night with some smores and slept great.
